Potomac later arrests six suspected ghouls in Martinique and transfers them to French authorities.

Survivors describe a sudden blast and intense heat that engulfed the town, with fires and gases creating a lethal aftermath.

The Master Builders' association of the District of Columbia adopts a resolution declaring a lockout against all mechanics affiliated with the Central Labor Union. In Pittsburg on May 14 the recent large strikes closed with workers gaining. About 6,000 carpenters return to work at 3.50 dollars per day and 2,300 iron workers resume at 47 cents per hour. Employers in both building trades agreed to the terms.

Mrs Melora Mc Pherson Clarkson widow of the late Bishop Clarkson died at her Omaha home after a long illness. She led Clarkson memorial hospital for 18 years, turning it into the Wests largest children's institution. She also served as vice regent of Nebraska for Mount Vernon association.
Fred Fowler, 17, of Downers Grove near Chicago, died saving two companions after a leaky canoe overturned in an artificial lake. He rescued Albert Smith, 13, then tried to save Leonard Wall and Harry Morris. all three disappeared. Albert Smith, unable to swim, tied a rope to himself and entered the water to aid others but perished with Fowler and the others. Smith was revived after being brought ashore. The three bodies were recovered later.
Archie McEachern, famed Toronto bicycle rider, died after a motor tandem crash at the Coliseum track. The chain on the tandem broke, causing a sudden stop that sent McEachern into a board, tearing the jugular vein. Alf Boake and Robert B. Thompson, his long-time teammates, were uninjured.
