Snyder Oklahoma reports ninety five known dead after a nighttime tornado with a dozen missing. Over one hundred injured, twenty percent expected to die, with fires, debris, and mass burials stressing town crews and relief from nearby cities.
A May 12 report from Port Cobb Oklahoma notes many law books and letters were carried by wind from Snyder, sixty miles away, and collected in Port Cobb.
A May 2 tornado near Spencer destroyed Harmony Church seven miles east in Clay township and damaged a schoolhouse and barn while fatally injuring owner H H Holberg. In Ladysmith Wisconsin on May 12 negotiations toward peace have started with the Mississippi Logging and Boom company initiating talks with John Dietz. Prospects for an early settlement appear fair.
Twenty are dead and over 100 injured after a Pennsylvania railroad wreck in Harrisburg followed by a dynamite explosion. The Cleveland and Cincinnati express collided with a midtrain blast, flames engulfed cars, rescuers freed survivors amid chaos, and authorities began inquest with a temporary morgue and hospital triage. Notable victims include James R. Tindel and Victor L. Crabbe. conditions and casualty details dominated the city’s response as crews worked through the night.
At Harrisburg the International Railway Congress adopted resolutions expressing sympathy to the injured and to families of the deceased and to the railway company and involved employees. Sir Armitage of England offered the resolutions as the American Railway Association hosted a New Willard banquet for 300 delegates. Speeches followed by Sir George Armitage Baron Speck von Sternberg the German ambassador Cortelyou and J M Baldwin. A greeting from Emperor William of Germany was received.
A violent storm in Indiana caused two deaths from lightning in Nora and Union City, with Edward Martin and Ernest Johnson among the victims. The same event brought injuries, crop damage, and widespread destruction as hail and high winds swept through multiple cities.
In St Paul on May 12 the forty seventh anniversary of Minnesota's admission to the Union was marked at the state capitol by the Minnesota Territorial Pioneer Association. Several hundred members attended. Officers elected include President C F Staples Hastings first vice president F G O'Brien Minneapolis second vice president Judge E W Bagzille St Paul secretary G H Hazzard St Paul treasurer W J Dean Minneapolis.
