Copenhagen officials discussed the treaty to sell the Danish West Indies to the United States. Premier Denitzer argued Denmark acted in islanders’ interests and received compensation. Reports say islanders fear loss of rights and possible unrest if the treaty fails.

March 14. John Bries, wealthy Ohio farmer, held inside his house with two sons and several helpers as armed men attempted to rob him before dawn. Sheriff and two deputies arrived to defend the home. The raiders fired at the occupants but fled without gaining any money or loot.
