Paterson New Jersey sees a determined mob attacking silk mills led by Italian and English anarchist agents. Police outnumbered, officers and a patrol wagon faced rock and gunfire. several workers and bystanders are injured, with at least two deaths reported.
Mayor Hinchcliffe called in firemen and armed officers as rioting mobs gathered around the Gaede mill on North Straight street. A 2000 strong crowd bombarded the mill, reporter Harry Harris was beaten and shot after attempting to photograph. Rioters warned of police readiness to shoot to kill if violence resumes.
Excitement rocks Vincennes Indiana as rumors spread that a mob will attack the county jail to lynch William Edison the accused rapist and ex convict. Sheriff Summitt has mobilized deputies and contacted police while the prisoner awaits trial Friday. The crowd surrounds the jail and officials consider calling in the governor or military protection.
Major General MacArthur commanding the Department of the East ordered a general court martial at Fort Thomas Kentucky to report on two privates tried for desertion. One man received two months hard labor and the other a dishonorable discharge. He called the sentences manifestly inadequate and directed courts to impose adequate penalties before considering clemency in a separate paper.
Joliet mills of the Illinois Steel company announce a general 10 percent wage increase. Machinists paid 29 14 cents an hour will now receive 32 to 33 cents. The raise also covers common labor.
Indianapolis announces a national convention of the United Mine Workers of America on July 17 to decide if soft coal miners will strike to support Pennsylvania anthracite miners. Delegates number about 1000 with voting strength around 1800, and a bare majority could order a strike despite national officers opposing a general stoppage. The call signals possible wider conflict across Missouri Arkansas Indian Territory and other regions.

In Clearfield Pennsylvania on June 19 sub district presidents of District No 2 United Mine Workers ordered Northern and Central Pennsylvania miners to work four days weekly reducing output by one third. Miners should suspend on Wednesdays and Saturdays at coke oven operations. the measure begins June 25 to curb coal flow to areas previously supplied by anthracite during the miners strike.
Pawtucket Rhode Island June 19 after a weeklong stay over street railway riots two Providence infantry companies return home. Eleven infantry two cavalry two marines and a machine gun remain on duty. The traction company ran sixteen cars today the most since the strike began two weeks ago with no incidents reported.
The executive board of the Ohio Wine Markets board adopted resolutions urging President Mitchell to convene a general union convention. The union aims to oppose a strike and support anthracite miners in their fight.

In Lincoln the Republican state convention nominated John H. Mickey of Osceola for governor on the thirteenth ballot after a long session from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The ticket includes E. G. McGillon for lieutenant governor and others. most nominees are present officers. The convention praised the national administration and endorsed Roosevelt while condemning McKinley’s death and supporting national irrigation, land, and Filipino policies.
