Fiery North Carolina crash kills 17 migrant workers
A flat-bed truck carrying migrant laborers and a tractor-trailer collided at a road intersection near Fayetteville. Seventeen people died in the blaze and 21 were hospitalized, 14 in critical condition. The accident occurred at Highways 301 and 102 nine miles north of Fayetteville.

Aged St Paul Woman Killed in Car Crash
Mrs Rhoda Gumpolen about 75 of 721 Delaware Ave St Paul was killed late Wednesday when the car she rode in collided at a highway intersection in Mendota Heights. Rasmus O Nelson 85 of St Paul driver suffered a fractured skull and other injuries. His wife 60 suffered lacerations and possible head and internal injuries. Victor A Wochnick 29 Minneapolis driver of the other car suffered only minor injuries. Mrs Gumpolen's death raised the 1957 Minnesota traffic toll to 243, compared with 178 a year ago.
