Carnegie Institution Trustees Meet at State Department

The Interstate Commerce Commission notes argue competitive conditions and a move toward permanent organization. Abram S. Hewitt presides as trustees vote in new officers and accept Andrew Carnegie's deed of gift. Dr Daniel C. Gilman is elected president of the Carnegie Institution.

Newspapers blamed for Miss Stone release failure

The state department suspects newspapers influenced the failed negotiations for Miss Stone. Turkish troops, guided by press pressure, arrived near the surrender site causing captors to retreat. The Sofia Times correspondent reports Miss Stone and Mme Tsilka were freed on Turkish soil in the morning.

Peculiar Circumstances Attend the Death of a Kenosha Girl

Miss Anna Ziesemer died suddenly in Kenosha Wisconsin after declaring she would die that afternoon. She appeared in good health and chatted with coworkers before fainting on the way to the workroom. She was taken home by carriage and died shortly before five in the afternoon.

St Paul Church Destroyed by Fire

The People's church at Pleasant avenue and Chestnut street in St Paul was gutted by fire leaving walls standing. Loss is about 80000 with 50000 insured. Cause unknown, suspected electrical wiring defect.
