New York Central railroad will replace steam power with electricity in the Park avenue tunnel within a year. Local trains will run electrically and trunk line trains may switch to safer methods entering Grand Central. An extra expert crew has worked in the tunnel since the accident to plan a rapid change.
Ottawa officials report the cabinet ordered the death sentence of Ah Kuong remitted. The Chinese man, sentenced to hang January 14 in New Westminster for killing three countrymen and wounding two, was found insane and will be confined in a lunatic asylum.

Timothy alias Kid Hogan a noted mail box robber and forger was released from the penitentiary in Columbus Ohio and arrested at the door. He had been received June 9 1868 from the United States court to serve two concurrent five year terms. He was sought in many cities with rewards over 4000 dollars and was an escaped prisoner from Blackwell’s Island New Jersey. He has four years and one month to serve and will be returned there, refusing to go without requisition papers.
Oliver Sheets, a farmer nine miles north of Decatur Indiana, was attacked in his bedroom when assailants battered the door with a fence rail and fired five shots. Sheets was hit in the left arm, lights were extinguished, and the attackers fled. A coat, mitten, hat, and a Chicago and Erie lantern were found in the yard with no clues to the attackers.
A United States circuit court granted a temporary injunction on the application of Cleveland, Western Union and Postal Telegraph companies. The order restrains twelve outside concerns from receiving Chicago Board of Trade quotations and cites use of quotations from complainants wires or customer bulletins.
A cold blood murder occurred eight miles west of Uniontown at the New Sharon Steel mines. Henry Grant killed William Jenkins, shift boss, with a knife after being replaced in charge of drilling. Grant fled amid the shaft’s chaotic escape. Chicago reports the Record-H Herald notes a new $5,000,000 American Stove Company formed by nine stove manufacturers forming a gas and oil stove combine.
