Susan Holder, 19, of Jackson, Miss, wins the 1968 Mara of Cotton pageant, becoming a global cotton ambassador for the industry. Eileen Presse, 19, of Metairie, La., is among five finalists. Holder, a Mississippi State College for Women sophomore, will tour worldwide promoting cotton. ST. PAUL AP Officials moved to remove 300 to 400 deer from grounds of the Twin Cities Army Ammunition plant at Arden Hills using M99 etorphine tranquilizers. Maj. Fred von Gortler and a six-vehicle hunting party used CO2 and 22 caliber rifles to dart deer, then loaded them for relocation after a "save the deer" plan prevailed over killing. News coverage was restricted at Gate 4 and the admin building.
In St. Cloud Minnesota a mother and her six children were hospitalized after carbon monoxide poisoning traced to a faulty furnace. Gerald Deters found his family ill at noon and again at seven p.m. after a physician suspected flu. Police were notified and all were admitted to St. Cloud Hospital.
A kitchen fire swept the lobby of the Chateau Champlain Hotel in Montreal early today. The blaze sent 150 guests fleeing into sub zero temperatures in pajamas and coats. Thirty two people, including nine firefighters, were hospitalized.

In Philadelphia a man identified as Alexander Hamilton shot his estranged wife Cynthia in a hospital maternity ward after speaking calmly to her. Hamilton, 44, wounded himself as two other patients witnessed the incident. The wife had just given birth to their first child on Tuesday. Police said. Separately in Saigon, President Thieu reported the arrest of a Viet Cong emissary and eight additional people tied to prisoner exchange attempts.

The Associated Press reports four people were killed in three Minnesota crashes Friday and today raising the 1967 highway death toll to 923. Teens Michael Wolbeck 18 and Linda Kind 17 of Sauk Centre perished when struck by a Great Northern passenger train near the Sauk Centre fairgrounds. Joseph Hiltner Jr 28 of New Munich died in a collision on old Highway 52 near Freeport. Gilbert Bechtold 58 of Minneapolis died in a car truck crash on Highway 169 near Princeton. truck driver Vern Scofield of Princeton escaped injury.
Memphis AP George Ikard, a retired Memphis fire captain, asks the Pension Board to cut his city pension. He receives $202 monthly city pension, $44 Social Security, and $78.75 soldier's pension. He cites rising Social Security and a city pension increase as pushing him into a higher income bracket and losing his soldier's pension. He asks to cut the city pension by $10 monthly or reverse a $25 increase.
