Nixon Says U S Not Lost Military Edge Despite Sputnik Challenge

Missing Plane Found Ends Search for Hibbing Men

A Civil Air Patrol reconnaissance near Alborn Minnesota located a missing light plane wreckage and the bodies of three Hibbing men L. Miller Wittig 4 Arrowhead Flyways Co Frank Keller 54 K. B. Supply Co and Paul Keller 38 K. B. Supply Co. The Cessna departed Crystal Airport Friday afternoon en route to Hibbing and vanished about 35 miles south of Hibbing.

Fire Destroys Iowa Ballroom

Arnolds Park fire crews battle the blaze that destroyed the Boji Ballroom on Lake Okoboji early Sunday. No injuries reported and wind absence helped limit damage to the amusement park. The 1912 structure had been renovated and converted to a year round facility. Fire departments from Arnolds Park Milford and Spirit Lake responded.

Staples Airman 23 Killed in Idaho Crash

Two service men died when a car left U S Highway 30 near Boise, plunged down an embankment and rolled over. A J C Alden Cleveland, 23, of Staples Minnesota, and Army M Sgt Dean Henderson, 34, Boise, were killed. Henderson was driving. Cleveland was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Austinites in Search Austin CAP dispatched four planes from the Austin Airport to search the area. Pilots were Melvin Ehmke Richard Hallman Dr A J Schaub and Mayor Baldy Hansen. The party was led by CAP Captain Arthur McAlister.

A head on collision on Roller Coaster Road near Sioux City Sunday night killed four teenage girls Marvel Murdock 14 Sharon Bratt 17 Geraldine Chapel 14 and Phyllis Stott 16 all of Sioux City and injured five others. Trainmen End Work Stoppage In Three-State Rail Dispute

The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen called off a three-state work stoppage affecting Chicago and North Western Railway routes from Minneapolis to Adams Wisconsin and Sioux City Iowa, and Duluth Superior area. Pilot ejects as F102 crashes near Kilkenny Minnesota

An Air Force pilot bailed out safely from an F102 jet that crashed in a cornfield north of Kilkenny, Minnesota. The aircraft, on a flight from Grandview, Missouri to Duluth, exploded on impact, scattering debris over about a quarter mile. A companion jet landed at Minneapolis Wold-Chamberlain Field, and a helicopter retrieved the flyer.

Son Born to Wife of Coach in Slaying

A son was born Sunday to Mrs. Frank Depp wife of a Round Lake Minnesota football coach who fatally stabbed a daughter and wounded another last Thursday. The child Michael Louis weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce and both mother and baby were reported well. Julie Marie 14 months was buried Saturday. Teresa Ann 32, the other sister, is improving. Depp age 28 has been committed to a state mental hospital.

Blue Earth Sailor Killed in Germany

The Defense Department reported the death of Navy enlisted man Owen McGoff of Blue Earth in a car accident in Germany. McGoff, son of Mrs. Florence McGoff, was killed last Friday.

2 Killed in Crash Near Worthington

Two men died in a flaming highway collision five miles north of Worthington Minnesota and a Henning Minnesota couple perished in a car train wreck. The Minnesota 1957 traffic toll rose to 644, just five short of the all time state high.

Four Escapees To Be Transferred To Stillwater Prison

Four Minnesota reform school escapees captured in Illinois and Indiana will be sent directly to Stillwater State Prison for security. Ronald Manning and Vernon Rollins, both in their 20s, expected tonight. Kenneth Clausen and Carl Bishop due Tuesday night. Ex-Congressman Leonidas C. Dyer Dies at 86

Former Representative Leonidas C. Dyer, author of the 1919 Dyer Act restricting interstate motor vehicle theft, died Sunday night at 86 in the John J. Cochran Veterans Hospital after a long illness.
