Indian Bill Before House Shows Funding Cut

The Indian appropriation bill reported by Rep Burke carries 8,160,985 dollars, 851,663 less than the current year. Women Object to the Signs in Grand Forks

Grand Forks North Dakota plans to ban canvas sale signs and cigarette smoke nuisances in a civic beautification move led by the Women's Civic League. Change in Dates Made for Laundry Objections Hearing

Carrington North Dakota December 8 The state railroad commission in session here moved the hearing on objections of the state laundrymen to present express rates. The original date December 9 at Fargo was postponed at the request of the laundrymen's association and new dates have not been fixed.

Present System Deemed Inefficient at Lake States Fire Meet

At St Paul on December 8 delegates to the Lake States fire conference adopted resolutions urging Minnesota Wisconsin and Michigan to form a nonpartisan forest protection commission with authority to regulate and control forests. The meeting praised unity and attendance while noting current systems were inefficient. A public education campaign to raise awareness of precautionary forest measures was approved, with John H. Rhodes presiding as Minnesota Forestry Association president.

Walter A. Hall, a 24 year old bank teller, surrendered in New York after admitting a 44,600 theft from the Herald Square Greenwich bank. He returned from Canada to see his newborn, paid 15,200 back, and was remanded for sentencing. Also in Chicago, George Hackenschmidt defeated Jesse Westergaard in two falls, first in 1 hour 2 minutes 15 seconds with a double bar arm hold and second in 11 minutes 20 seconds with a reversed body hold.

Bitter fight over Ballinger Pinchot reports in Congress

Washington dispatch reports Democrats claim the Minneapolis meeting produced the only official majority report on the Ballinger Pinchot charges against Secretary Ballinger. The minority denounces the majority document as not officially valid, setting up a fight in the Senate and House. Republicans split, with some labeling the Democratic report as a "snap affair" while others align with Democrats. A rule will be needed in the House to move the reports to the floor, as administration friends expect a heated contest and possible reversals.

Merger Plans Comp in Calumet Copper Companies

Plans for a long predicted merger of Calumet and Arizona and the Superior Pittsburg Copper companies were completed at a joint meeting of directors at the Congress hotel. The Crests in the companies are placed the same and the Calumet 70nm smelters treat the product both companies.
