Fort Pitt National Bank Closes Amid Cash Crunch

Pittsburg December 7 Fort Pitt National Bank the citys old financial institution failed to open after a clearing house demand for immediate cash. Bank officials insist the bank is solvent and depositors will be paid in full, attributing the suspension to stringent market conditions and not to distress.

Epidemic of Lawlessness Grips St Joseph

In St Joseph Missouri twenty holdups by masked men occurred in twenty four hours. One man was killed and three people killed themselves. Half the police force wore civilian clothes as orders went out to arrest all suspicious persons after midnight. James Stevens was struck by J B Duncan over a round of drinks and died. Duncan surrendered claiming self defense.

Taft Arrives in Berlin From Russia for Reception

Secretary of War Taft and party reach Berlin after Russia visit, attend a reception, then sail on the President Grant from Hamburg to New York. Mrs Taft heads to Paris. Ambassador Tower and Lt Col Wisser meet the group at the station. Taft says the trip was without political significance.

Alleged Slayer Caught in Illinois After Iowa Double Murder

Des Moines reports Harry Jones alias Walter Beatty, accused of killing Mr. and Mrs. William Van Winkler, was captured in Coalville Illinois after being seen in the woods seeking food. In St Paul fires damaged Carling's restaurant on Robert Street killing one woman by suffocation and injuring others. the loss is estimated at 30 to 40 thousand dollars, largely insured.

Peshtigo Woman Dies By Own Action In Nervous Illness

Mrs Alma Parrish of Peshtigo Wisconsin killed herself with carbolic acid after locking herself in her bedchamber. She was found by her husband and a physician called for a nervous illness. The death was attributed to temporary insanity caused by illness.

A chaotic item from a Chicago Bee report describes a mother and infant fatality linked to gas inhalation. The 11 month old and the mother were found near a gas range with toxic fumes cited as the cause. Police note despondency and ill health as possible factors in the deaths.
