Lawyer George A. Lamb testified for Peter Power naming W Bourke Cochran Camille Weidenfeld H Content Co and Edwin R Thomas as backers who sought to conceal involvement in the Northern Pacific merger suit. Power claimed he received stock for his name and details of a plan to send him abroad. The Denver scene reports Gates party aims to dissolve an injunction in the Colorado Fuel and Iron case with Judge Mullins away on vacation.

The American Opticians association closed with H. E. Ellis elected president and F. L. Swart Frank Upham and E. L. Jones as vice presidents. C. A. Longstreet named treasurer and William Sommers regent. Atlantic City chosen for next convention.
Thomas Nevins of East Orange New Jersey died at his Mount Shannon home in Castle Connell County Limerick Ireland. Nevins was a wealthy figure and large shareholder in several U S electric traction companies and had connections with New Jersey railroad and gas concerns.
Asheville reports that the American Society of Florists ended its current convention on August 22 and selected Milwaukee as the site for next year’s meeting after several days of sessions.
Chicago reports the merger of the Northwestern and Cicero Gas companies creating the Northwestern Gas Light and Coke company with a $10,000,000 capital. The new firm controls all gas plants in Cook county outside Chicago and aims to cut administration costs and centralize supply for improved distribution.
The shah of Persia visited Westminster Abbey in the afternoon and attended a gala performance at the hippodrome at night with Prince Arthur of Connaught the Marquis of Lansdowne and Lady Lansdowne among others. He was accompanied by the Atabek Azam Grand Vizier and a large suite and was escorted by life guards receiving ovations throughout the visit.

Freeman Keen aged seventy one and a veteran Duluth pioneer was struck on the head by a street car as he stepped from a car and crossed a track at West Duluth. He died shortly after at a hospital. He left a wife dead two years ago and several grown sons.
