Death Toll Rises In Wilmington Pulp Mill Disaster

Nine workers were killed and five missing after two steel digesters exploded at the Jessup Moore pulp mill on the Christiana River in Wilmington Delaware. A cloudburst and tornado hit Pana Illinois on August 21 causing extensive damage. The Catholic church steeple and its four ton bell were blown down, hotels and business blocks unroofed, the YMCA building nearly demolished, and the B and O depot at Millerville blown away. Damage estimated at 150000 dollars with injuries reported.

In Helena Montana on August 21 Maggie Young a variety actress drenched her clothes with kerosene and set herself on fire in a quarrel. She ran into Main Street as bystanders tried to help two men were seriously burned putting out the flames. The act caused a street panic as rescuers pursued her.

Murder Near Russellville Rocks County Farm Family

In sight of her home in Russellville Kentucky on August 21 fifteen year old Zoda Vick daughter of C M Vick prominent local farmer was murdered. She had gone to the spring for water and did not return. The body with head crushed was found in a fence corner partly covered with leaves. One hundred men with bloodhounds hurried to the scene and lynching is implied if the killer is caught.
