Retail meat prices to drop further in coming weeks

A National Association of Retail Meat Dealers spokesman said retail meat prices will continue to fall through the rest of October and into early November. New York chains announced 2 to 10 cent cuts on about 80 meat items, while wholesale prices remained weak and hog prices rose slightly in the Corn Belt amid reduced hog shipments.

Florida Faces Lighter Damage From Storm Spreads

A Florida weather study says damage from the hurricane that swept South Florida on Tuesday will be light in the state. Pompano Beach was hardest hit with 25 houses destroyed and seven injured in one of three tornadoes. Cuba suffered 11 dead and 300 injured as the storm moved away from the mainland. The hurricane was about 200 miles east of Melbourne at 10:30 am and advancing northeast at 16 mph. Lake Okeechobee areas remained largely underwater from the prior hurricane, though rain eased.

Orange Brothers Die In Car Truck Crash

Two Gregory brothers Albert 20 and Robert 24 died in a car truck collision seven miles east of Orange near the Louisiana line. Albert died instantly and Robert died en route to Orange hospital. Details were not immediately available. the truck carried a load of furniture.

Quake Hits Meshed Killing Hundreds and Wrecking City

An earthquake struck Meshed in Iran killing about 200 people and injuring thousands. The tremor collapsed part of the Gowharshad Mosque and caused widespread damage across the walled city, near the mausoleum of the Imam Reza in Khorasan province.

Judge sees no further action in Stevenson suit against Johnson

Abilene October 6 Federal Judge T Whitfield Davidson said no further developments are expected in Coke Stevenson versus Lyndon Johnson in Davidson County court. He would convene a hearing if requested but did not expect reopening the vote fraud probe in Jim Wells Zapata and Duval counties after the Supreme Court stayed an injunction letting Johnson appear on the ballot. Johnson led Stevenson by 87 votes in the State Democratic Convention tally.

Soviet announce low level air drills near Berlin corridors

Soviet authorities said they would conduct ground to air drills at 2,500 feet in the Berlin air corridors north and west of the city. US Major General George P. Boulder Hurls Train Off Tracks Killing Two Crewmen

A huge boulder on a Bellevue track toppled a Fort Pitt Express derailing two locomotives and deranging nine cars. Engineer J. G. Lightburn and Fireman R. G. Rombke of Crestline Ohio were killed. Atlanta firefighters led about 500 school children through a Fire Prevention Week drill at a seven story training tower. Smoke from bombs filled the structure and sirens wailed as seven firefighters were overwhelmed by smoke and hospitalized.

Night Fighter F82 Crashes at Hamilton Field Injures Pilot

Lewis Proposes Dues Hike To Boost Union Treasury
