In Pasadena on a Saturday night two men 23 and 24 greeted each other at a drive in restaurant. They leaped from cars with outstretched hands and fell. Dwyer suffered a leg fracture and Chapman a deep head gash. Both were hospitalized.
Dr. B. QUEBEC October 3 The United States fabricated structural steel industry would be prepared to implement any government production plan with minimal delay. T R Mullen president of the American Institute of Steel Construction and head of Lehigh Structural Steel Company spoke on the eve of the institute's 26th annual convention bringing together about 600 American and Canadian steel men. He said there would be little need to convert facilities if war came.
Navy and Marine forces will begin a week of maneuvers along the southern California coast with 30 000 personnel. The drills target San Clemente Island and Aliso Beach near Camp Pendleton, and will include sinking of the radioactive ships Skate and Crittenden as part of the exercise.

At Huntsville state prison early Sunday Andrew Hill, 24, a Black man, was executed by electric chair for the slaying of Bowie County Police Officer R. F. Talley. He died at 12:12 am after entering the chair at 12:06 am. He said Father forgive me as the chair was applied. The prison chaplain said Hill claimed he was a victim of circumstances and did not mean to shoot Talley.
Nearly complete returns show Joseph R. Farrington, president of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, leading for a fourth term as Hawaii's congressional delegate with 40,361 votes to Walter H. Dillingham's 10,634 as only 16 precincts remain. Jack Burns won the Democratic nomination against Mrs. Victoria Holt by 7,099 votes.
In Callao, Peru, sailors and armed civilians rose Sunday against the government but were suppressed as loyal troops captured rebel leader Jose Mosto. Dozens of civilians were killed or wounded, and a midnight curfew under martial law was imposed across Lima, Callao, and Ancon.
Personnel of the 313th Troop Carrier Wing at Bergstrom Air Force Base will move to Europe within 30 days for permanent change of station. Col Baez, wing commander, announced the dispatch to support aircraft maintenance for the Berlin airlift. Captain Bruce L. Kates said exact destination and troop numbers could not be disclosed.

A 400-foot-deep brine well owned by Morton Salt Company caved in near Grand Saline Texas. The incident formed a crater 150 feet wide and caused six company houses to be evacuated while operations on the adjacent Texas and Pacific spur were halted. A derrick toppled as the cave in occurred. No injuries were reported.
Two boys admitted to Brackenridge Hospital marked polio ward arrivals for 36th and 37th cases of the year. Six year old Johnny White Jr of 1711 Clifford Street and five year old Ross Caldwell of Pflugerville, sons of their respective parents, entered as polio cases.

The Soviet Government on Monday proposed that the Four Power Foreign Ministers Council be convened to address both the Berlin impasse and the overall German situation. The proposal was in Moscow’s reply to the Western notes ending direct Berlin talks.
