Texas faces TCU in Fort Worth as the Longhorns seek to end a three-game skid against the Frogs. A sellout 34,000 crowd is expected for the 34th meeting in warm, clear conditions after brief rain.
A Travis County man found his wife hanged Friday when he opened the garage door to park his truck. Mrs. R. B. Gault, long-time resident of Travis County, was discovered in the garage between her home and a local service station and grocery, nine miles south of Austin on the San Antonio Highway. The body was found around 5 p.m. by her husband. a physician said she had been dead about three hours. Survivors include her husband, a son, a sister in Austin, a sister in Houston, and two brothers in Houston. Funeral services are pending.
Chicago reports three operating unions decide to accept a 10 cent hourly raise retroactive to Oct 16 affecting 250,000 engineers firemen and switchmen. Earlier two unions covering 175,000 conductors and trainmen also agreed. Wage talks with 16 non operating unions proceed before a presidential fact finding board.
Former Texas governor Ross Sterling, 73, of Houston, was placed under an oxygen tent at Harris Memorial Hospital in Fort Worth on Friday afternoon. He remains in critical condition with a heart ailment complicated by a breathing issue.
An unofficial naval source said a mystery submarine was detected near Pearl Harbor, tracked by destroyer escorts to 8 p.m. Wednesday, then eluded sound detection. Pacific Fleet reported the escort Raby believed it had a possible contact, but the Navy said the search lacked verification and was abandoned after nearly 24 hours.

Montreal on Friday saw Alger Moreau rush to save a woman from an approaching street car. He pulled her to safety but was struck in the face by her arm, suffering a fractured nose. the woman departed unharmed.

Two Atlanta taxi drivers Ernest Lee Evans and Johnny E Carver were bound over to a Wichita Falls grand jury on a kidnapping charge. Evans was released on his own recognizance while Carver remained jailed on 1500. Mrs Margaret Hodges is charged with abducting her eight year old son Jack from Alamo Elementary School.
Tokyo reports Hideki Tojo and six conspirators were sentenced to death by the 111-nation international tribunal after a two and a half year trial. Sixteen received life terms and others prison sentences. MacArthur set appeals deadline for Nov. 19 with a council meeting planned for Nov. 22.
District Judge John H. Tate dissolved an injunction banning picketing at the Elgin-Butler Brick plant in Bastrop County. The ruling allows peaceful picketing near rail spurs serving the plant, with Arthur Bagby planning an appeal for the T&NO Railway.
Great Britain will drop its visa requirement for American passport holders traveling within the United Kingdom. The new rule, effective Saturday, ends the $10 visa fee for tourists and business visitors. At Landsberg Prison fifteen former Mauthausen guards were hanged for slaying more than 4 600 camp inmates including 47 American and British airmen. The executions bring total Landsberg hangings to 58 in the past month while 81 of 139 remain. The US Army declined to halt the executions despite church protests.
