Police report two additional youths admitted firing on a Colorado River fishing party injuring Billy Joe Simpson eight. The new suspects owned different .22 rifles than earlier detainees, and the earlier boys were released after questioning. Billy Joe remains in critical condition with a bullet lodged in his chest awaiting removal when feasible.
A quirky Memphis column reports small fry raiding the dog pound with a businessman supplying bait for laughs. Also notes Gorgeous Gussy Moran's return to the US and solo talk on her forthcoming garb. A New Mexico murder tattoo tip puzzling investigators is highlighted. The Oklahoma City policeman’s wife claims a kidnapping tale was a fabrication.
A Roxbury taxi driver, Joseph Frank aged 55, received a cash payoff from a radio quiz host after returning a canvas bag containing $200 in silver coins. The driver declined a tip from the host and was paid five paper dollars for his honesty.
Fairfield Illinois May 22 A gun ambush wounded Big Earl Shelton the last of the Shelton gang chiefs as he rode with his nephew Little Earl to inspect an oil well. The attack left him with a wounded right arm and flying glass in his eyes.
The US Weather Bureau predicts continuing hot summer weather in Austin with partly cloudy skies, a high of 90 and a low of 65. A few widely scattered thundershowers may occur late Tuesday according to the bureau.
Texas livestock leader Max Lindeman said applying the 1921 Packers and Stockyards Act to cattle pens over 20 000 square feet would unfairly handicap independent yards serving local markets. He discussed the issue with Rep Lyle and Senators Connally and Johnson, and Agriculture Department officials.

General Omar Bradley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Lubbock listeners Monday night that the nation must present a strong positive program for peace and security. He condemned appeasement of aggressors and said the United States should stand with NATO allies in collective security. The speech opened Armed Forces Day observances delayed two days for his appearance.
In Washington on May 22, the Senate rejected two resolutions to block Truman administration reorganization plans for the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Power Commission by margins short of a veto. Grand jurors indict Thomas Lococo and Samuel Hayden in Kansas City on five counts of income tax fraud from 1944 to 1948 linked to a $34.5 million gambling operation. Lococo, once an enforcer for Boss Tom Pendergast era figures, and Hayden, ex–county prosecutor, face heavy penalties if convicted amid a crackdown on organized crime.
