Ruling in Matthews pay case draws split views
Attorneys offered differing readings of the Third Court of Civil Appeals decision on Matthews pay. County Attorney Perry Jones said the ruling returns the case to its pre district court posture, potentially allowing suits to reclaim or challenge the payment. Ralph Yarborough argued the moot finding in effect favors Matthews, while the district court ruling was set aside as a technicality. The Commissioners Court planned action Saturday on future steps and on payments to Johnson, with Hidalgo County officials awaiting the Travis County outcome.
