Firebug confesses arson at Belle Vista Sanatorium blaze
Nicholas Verna a 24 year old convicted arsonist admitted starting the Wednesday night fire at Belle Vista Sanatorium in Philadelphia causing nine deaths and injuring at least 60 including firemen nurses and patients. He broke down after a three hour grilling and was arrested at Valley Forge General Hospital. Verna had prior arson convictions in Delaware County and the Crozer Building.

19-Year-Old Shot In Accidental Rifle Incident
Gerald Dean Ward 19 of Route 7 Box 193 was shot through the left chest with a .22 rifle while target shooting with his wife Elsie at Four Point Bull Creek Road near Marshall Ford Dam. He remained in critical condition Thursday night at Brackenridge Hospital. No witnesses were present.
