County official warns of license plate rush in Travis County
County Tax Collector Steve Heffington and deputies expect a mass of unregistered cars with at least 8,500 still not registered as the midnight Saturday deadline approaches. A 20 percent fee penalty applies unless an affidavit shows the car has not been driven since April 1. Three Men Charged After Cops Find Marijuana Here
Three San Antonio men George Roberts Warren Duncan and Esma Robert Hawkins were charged after a seizure of about three pounds of marijuana. They waived examing trial and bonds were set at 1500 each. They were arrested on US 81 near Williamson Creek as the narcotics were allegedly being transported from near Corpus Christi to a point near Austin. The case involves illegal transportation and failure to pay federal taxes on marijuana. Police continued a search for the Austin delivery point.
