Death sentence for Fort Worth rape upheld
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the death sentence of William R. Ray for the rape of a 9 year old Fort Worth girl. The 1948 attack occurred in a Fort Worth city park. The court overruled challenges to the indictment and to alleged prejudicial testimony and notes careless indictment drawing and crowded courtroom conditions but praised the presiding judge's fairness.
