Romantic Violin Heirs Carry On Family Tradition

Mrs. Annie Doom Pickrell of Austin preserves a violin dating from before the Civil War. The German made instrument, bought in 1835 from a slave by Col. Randolph Doom, is linked to Will You Come to the Bower and Come Haste to the Wedding as Houston troops marched at San Jacinto. The violin, stored in a wooden case, bears Doom family history across generations and was played by Mrs. Pickrell at a DAR meeting in Austin.

He notes that short exposure to sun kills only top growth and does not destroy roots, likely causing decay and a resurgence of weeds after watering returns. He calls the issue a common river lake problem.
