City seeks clarification on civil service amendments
The City Police and Firemen's Civil Service Commission asked the state to clarify how 1949 amendments to the civil service law apply to Austin. They will also survey Texas cities on administering the amended status for police and fire departments. Fireman Silas Foster urged applying the shifts pay provision for vacation fills, but City Attorney Trueman O'Quinn says the amendments postdate Austin voters' approval and may not apply here.

UT Engineers Revive Drive for Laboratory
