Texas Women’s Legal Status Outlined by Senator Ashley
Senator Carlos Ashley spoke at the Austin AAUW and Austin Woman's Club meeting about Texas laws on women’s rights. He noted the Texas Constitution guarantees property inheritance and separate property for women, with post marriage property becoming community property. The talk referenced Mississippi’s 1839 reforms and framed female emancipation as relatively recent.
