Senate Delays Sherman Nomination Amid Denfeld Probe
The Senate armed services committee postponed action on Admiral Forrest Sherman to succeed Louis Denfeld as chief of naval operations until January 19. House hearings and Republican demands for a full inquiry into Denfeld's firing, tied to Denfeld’s Capitol Hill testimony on Pentagon policy, fueled the delay. Admiral Sherman awaits confirmation while Matthews may testify for new perspective on the controversy.
