End of GI Bill Tightens UT Funding for Veterans

The GI bill deadline looms as 10 months remain before benefits end for most World War I veterans, squeezing the University of Texas with about 15 000 veterans in training. UT faces a predicted 1961 52 VA allotment of 492 000 versus 3 616 000 in 1947 48, while enrollment drops from 5 916 in March to lower figures. Veterans must begin training by July 25 1951 or four years after discharge, whichever later, and complete by July 25 1956, with special rules for teachers and medical students and exceptions for interruptions approved by the administrator. Continuous schooling rules apply after deadline, and changes in objective require approval.
