Mohair Sale At Lampasas Brings 41 61 Cents
A Lampasas mohair sale saw adult hair fetch 41 cents and kid hair 61 cents, bought by C. Thomas Parker for Emery Russell Goodrich of Boston. The prior top was 40 and 60 cents, with little market activity recently. Enslie Oglesby of San Angelo purchased a 12 month wool carload at 52 cents per pound for Hills Oglesby and Devine, Boston.

GIDDINGS Aug 25 Two Lee County 4-H boys earned top honors in Sears pig contests across the eight county district. Walter Helmer Jr Dime Box 4-H won second prize $25 in heavy litter contest from 65 entries with a 10 pig litter weighing 460 pounds at 56 days average 46 pounds each. Walter Gersch Serbia club took seventh place $15 with a 10 pig litter weighing 379 pounds. Eight Lee litters competed.

Dallas August 25 In a new poultry show approach the 1949 State Fair of Texas will skip prize roosters and hens and spotlight working fowl under farm and backyard conditions. The event runs October 8 to 23 with breed displays, daily chick and turkey poult drawings, and exhibits from major poultry groups. Deserved industry recognition and expanded production support are emphasized by chairman Ben E. Cabell and partners.

Billy Ray Harrell of the Adamsville 4-H Club earned third place in the Sears-Roebuck Foundation boar demonstration contest for the Austin store area. He scored 90 out of 100, earning a Gold Star pin as Lampasas County's top 4-H club boy for 1948. Eight boys receive registered gilt pigs each year and gilt demonstrations are judged September 3 at the Lampasas fairgrounds.
