LCRA Opens Bids for Two Dams Near Marble Falls

Fred Jones Dies In Electric Chair In MUNTSVILLE
Fred Jones was executed by electric chair at 12 03 a m on Wednesday after a three day reprieve. He died at 12 17 a m in the death chamber after being condemned for the 1966 shooting death of H C Love Jr outside a West Texas grocery. Jones spoke of entering eternity and urged others to seek God. General Kerzee of Dallas, convicted in a 1948 Dallas mutilation case, witnessed the proceedings.

Gilbert R Buck Taylor an Austin and Brenham newspaperman died in the Veterans Hospital in Dallas on Tuesday. Taylor ran for Congress in 1944 from the 10th District but was defeated by Lyndon Johnson, later a U S senator. Funeral services will be held at Wolfe City.

War Miracles Saved Houston From Disaster
Two miracles, a fire prevention expert said Tuesday, prevented Houston from experiencing a near catastrophe when a 1,000 foot thick vapor cloud of butadiene formed over the city. The vapor escaped from a rubber plant near Houston after condensing water failed and operators dumped the plant, opening valves and causing precautionary destruction of the plant.
