240 Foot Fall Kills Mechanic In Monument
A refrigeration mechanic, Paul L. Holker, 51, of Washington, plunged 240 feet from just outside the Washington Monument elevator shaft and died. Police say he climbed a 6 1/2 foot guard wire, fell into the shaft, struck girders, and was found by an elevator operator in the pit.
