Brannan Prepares Farm Plan After House Defeat
Agriculture Secretary Charlie Brannan drafts a report for Congress arguing that continuing current price supports would cost the government vast sums. He estimates 90 percent parity supports on eggs could exceed 150 million dollars in 1950 if the House bill passes, driven by a large rise in laying flocks and a looming egg surplus. Texas farm prices in July hit a three year low, with most meat, grain, hay and cottonseed quotes down though potatoes and milk cows rose. hogs up to 19.80 per hundred pounds and beef cattle off, while wheat, corn, oats, barley and cottonseed also moved.
