Two of 10 Men Charged in Rape Case Surrender
In Tacoma two defendants Anders Liljas and Lawrence H. Meyer surrendered after warrants were issued by Judge W A Richmond. Ten men are charged in the rape of an 18 year old woman held last May 27. The woman, a former patient at Steilacoom State Hospital, had been recommitted there after the incident. A civil suit for 175000 by her husband Peter Chariton names the same defendants. The prosecutor contends the woman's testimony is needed for conviction and she may not be competent to testify.
