Dismantling of Hohenberg Home in San Marcos Ends Era

San Marcos reports the old Hohenberg home, built nearly a century ago by Judge Henry Cheatham, has been torn down after dust from a nearby dehydration plant made the site untenable. J. D. Cummings bought the property, which once hosted a social center with a large upstairs dance hall. A notable 1857 visit by Sam Houston and a welcoming committee is recalled by local elders. Originally tied to the McGehee Mexican grant, the home stayed with Cheathams until 1897, then changed hands several times before Cummings acquired it.
