A Pacific Northwest quake blamed on a giant Cascades fault caused eight deaths and about 20 million dollars in damage. Man Parachutes Off Golden Gate Bridge
San Francisco April 13 A 22 year old Oakland man Robert L Niles parachuted from the Golden Gate Bridge and survived uninjured. He earlier tried to jump on March 26 but was intercepted by highway patrolmen. He used a quick drop parachute and sustained rope burn while sliding down to the water.

Matamoros Mexico April 15 Mexican authorities announced a full scale investigation into an illegal shipment of arms. They seized 287 500 rounds of .22 long rifle ammunition on the Matamoros Victoria Highway near San Fernando after a several hour chase. The ammo was hidden under a load of empty beer bottles in a truck and several men were arrested. Authorities say the weapons may be linked to a recent minor uprising in Guatemala.
