Seed of feeling melts the heart under gold’s rule

G. W. Clark laments that warm emotions germinate only if the soul permits. A miser’s heart, chained by money, blocks such growth and yields a grim decline of nobler qualities, his mind enslaved by the glittering dollar and its protective instinct.

Fools and folly in a 1851 Aurora issue

An 1851 Aurora column argues folly is universal and offers counsel to avoid the insult. It includes commentary on marriage commerce, wealth, and social aims, urging cold calculation over sentiment, followed by mixed news notes on railroads, drownings, shipwrecks, violent incidents, and regional political comeuppances.
