The Aurelia Iowa council met September 9 1948 with Mayor Howell presiding. Bills for general, waterworks light grading and playground funds were approved for payment to multiple individuals and firms. An obituary for Grover C Peterson details birth in 1889 Ina Illinois marriage 1911 and two children, service in WWI, church affiliation and memberships. He died September 17 at the Veterans hospital Des Moines.
The Congregational I P F selected officers for the year with Corrine Larson as president and Shirley Terrink as vice president and program chair. Junior officers include Billy Whitney as president and Malcolm Teerink as vice president. A retreat at Sioux City and activities such as a paper drive and skating party are planned.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2:30 PM from St. John's Lutheran Church for Mrs. Fred Steve who died Tuesday. She is survived by daughter Margaret and Clara and sons Clarence and Albert all at home. Edward Bahr son of Rev. and Mrs. OQ Bahr of La Grange Texas was critically injured in an auto crash near Aurelia. passenger Russell Zubradt of Alta was also hurt. Both were treated at Alta hospital. Rev. Bahr previously served at St. John's. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bermann visited Leo Grau at Newell Sunday. Charles Zwemke and family visited Harold Hogrefe near Peterson Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoffmeier visited Henry Sump near Aurelia Sunday.
Mt Olive Baptist Church announces services led by Pastor Henry Olsen. Bible school with classes at 10:00 a.m. Morning worship at 11:00 a.m. Evening devotions and sermon at 8:00 p.m. All not worshipping elsewhere are invited to attend.
The Peterson and Rawalt families thank friends for flowers and words during their time of sorrow.
Mrs. Kenneth Johnson hosts Pal club with 11 members and two guests as the group donates $10 toward silverware for the Afton Community building. Scramble 500 yields Vera Stieneke high and Frances Benson low, lunch served. A forthcoming meeting set for Oct. 8 with Mrs. Paul Jones. George Phipps shower at the community center honors the bride with gifts, scrap book keepsake, and two duets by Mrs. Paul Jones and Mrs. Russell Allen.
St Paul s Lutheran Church led by Pastor Joel E Ross invites children aged four and older to enroll in the fall Sunday school term at 9 45 am. Divine worship with Holy Communion follows at 10 45 am. A quarterly business meeting is set for Sunday at 2 pm and confirmation instruction is Saturday from 1 to 3 pm. The church council meets Friday at 8 pm. The Sentinel serves as agent for Sioux City newspapers.
