The first Iowa Farm Sports Festival will be held September 8-9 at Iowa State College with major sponsors Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa State College and county farm bureaus. Statewide events will draw a large crowd with 30 000 having attended local county festivals this spring.
H D Hughes of Iowa State College warns that cutting alfalfa after mid September raises winter-kill risk in Iowa. A longer fall can allow late growth and higher next year yield, but only if root reserves are replenished before freeze. Late cuts reduce hay quality and leave ground unprotected from deep freezing and root damage. Spreading strong manure after late cutting provides protection.
A marker at Froelich, Iowa honors John Froelich who built the first self propelled gasoline tractor in 1892 and aided forming the Waterloo Traction Company later evolving into John Deere. The piece also notes social courtesy and car etiquette.

Announcement in the Sentinel states Aurelia debuts a new bowling alley Friday at 7:30 PM in the Schroeder building once Wharton Furniture. A. R. Breese of Red Oak will manage with Mrs. Reese and live in the Lockin hotel. L. W. Hypse of Wakefield assists. Mid-State Bowling Assn roots, with Red Oak as HQ, plan future alleys in Schaller Odeboldt and Early.
Mr and Mrs Ervin Radke hosted relatives at a 630 dinner Thursday with guests Elmer Sanderman Eleanor and Lorraine Miller Storm Lake James Prentice Alta Claude Stewart Cherokee H H Otto family Fred Radke family Diamond Center John Holtz Vern Otto Ralph Grieme. Arthur Zwemke of Lake View spent Labor Day weekend with Charles Zwemke. Mrs Ralph Grieme visited Harry Spe home with Vivian Slike. George Russell attended the Des Moines state fair. Eunice Bahr returned to Chicago for her senior year.
In Fort Dodge Iowa the morning worship begins at 10 a m with an English sermon by Pastor Herbert Berner of Wall Lake at 2 30 p m The Walther League will meet Thursday evening September 7.
