Fire Destroys Waddell Farm Barn South of Town

The large 40 by 60 foot barn on Frank Wad dell’s farm near Aurelia burned to the ground in a Wednesday morning blaze. Mrs and Mrs George Johnson tried to save two horses but heat doomed the effort. Aurelia fire department saved outbuildings and water was hauled from nearby wells to fight the flames. Loss estimated at $3,000 insured. barn built in 1893.

Young Couple United At Home Wedding

Miss Georgia M. Rebar and Mr. Carl Boots of Bayard Iowa united in marriage May 20 at the bride’s parents home near Aurelia. Rev L H Preul performed the double ring service in the presence of relatives with music by Mrs Gene Robar. Families hosted a wedding dinner and out of town guests attended from Fonda Sioux City Cherokee Ames and Bayard. The couple both attended the University of Iowa and work at the State hospital in Cherokee.

The Aurelia ball team opened at home with an 11 to 10 loss to Remsen after ten innings. About 250 fans witnessed a high scoring affair as Aurelia piled 16 hits while Remsen totaled 11. Hagey delivered a pinch hit in the ninth and Thayer led Aurelia with five hits.

Rural Electric Work Progressing Rapidly

A letter from T Glenn Dull acting project superintendent of the Cherokee County Rural Electric Co operative says work is advancing swiftly with about 80 miles staked and ready for contractor by week end. The contractor expects material deliveries around June 1 and will start county construction then. A meeting with wiring inspector Lester Swabble for wiring contractors or interested parties is planned at the REA office on Wednesday evening May 31.
