The First Trust Joint Stock Land Bank of Chicago sues Walter L. Lewis Nellie Lewis Emmet W Ammons Leona Dell Ammons and Cherokee County Iowa. Public auction set for June 12 1939 at 10 am at Cherokee Court House to satisfy a mortgage judgment plus costs covering 200 acres in Section 28 and adjacent parcels.
The large 40 by 60 foot barn on Frank Wad dell’s farm near Aurelia burned to the ground in a Wednesday morning blaze. Mrs and Mrs George Johnson tried to save two horses but heat doomed the effort. Aurelia fire department saved outbuildings and water was hauled from nearby wells to fight the flames. Loss estimated at $3,000 insured. barn built in 1893.
State Tax Commission guidance from the attorney general's office states that a purchaser of a new dwelling may secure a homestead credit in the first year only if the application is filed by June 1 with the proper affidavit. County Auditor H M Montgomery urges timely filing with the assessor or auditor.

Miss Georgia M. Rebar and Mr. Carl Boots of Bayard Iowa united in marriage May 20 at the bride’s parents home near Aurelia. Rev L H Preul performed the double ring service in the presence of relatives with music by Mrs Gene Robar. Families hosted a wedding dinner and out of town guests attended from Fonda Sioux City Cherokee Ames and Bayard. The couple both attended the University of Iowa and work at the State hospital in Cherokee.
The Aurelia ball team opened at home with an 11 to 10 loss to Remsen after ten innings. About 250 fans witnessed a high scoring affair as Aurelia piled 16 hits while Remsen totaled 11. Hagey delivered a pinch hit in the ninth and Thayer led Aurelia with five hits.

Iowa State College pomologist H H Plagge recommends vegetables and fruits good for freezing. Do not use Alaska and Perfection peas for freezing. valorize homegrown fruits and pineapple. Varieties listed include Martha Washington asparagus, Thomas Laxton peas, Little Marvel peas, Kentucky Wonder beans, and Montmorency cherries among others. A letter from T Glenn Dull acting project superintendent of the Cherokee County Rural Electric Co operative says work is advancing swiftly with about 80 miles staked and ready for contractor by week end. The contractor expects material deliveries around June 1 and will start county construction then. A meeting with wiring inspector Lester Swabble for wiring contractors or interested parties is planned at the REA office on Wednesday evening May 31.
