Ten years ago Aurelia won the Sioux Valley Conference track meet at Alta with 70 points, Alta second with 59. Also noted: Aurelia businessmen will buy baseball suits for two full teams. Sumner Fairchild, Aurelia resident for 57 years, died. about three inches of snow fell. the W G Whitney Elevator building received extensive repairs with corrugated iron. new doors to be added at the east end of the driveway.
Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. Morning worship at 11:00 a.m. Evening service at 7:00 p.m. Union Bible school begins Monday May 17 at 9:00 a.m. in the Methodist church. Conducted by Methodist and Congregational churches, it runs for 10 days to May 28. Plan to enroll children and attend worship.

Laura Rupe Alexander taught high school mathematics across Kansas Missouri Iowa and Wyoming from 1920s to 1948. Born June 10 1904 in Kansas City she lived with family in Holt Warrensburg and Aurelia before settling in Sac City Huntley and finally Torrington. She died April 27 1948 in Torrington after four years of heart illness, survived by husband Charles W. Alexander mother Mabel Rupe and brother Carl. Funeral services were held in Lenox with Eastern Star burial at Fairview cemetery.
In Tama county an auto truck crash led to the amputation of Melvin Toomer's left arm near the shoulder. Separately in Lincoln, Donald Gebers built a homemade bomb that exploded in his hand while being discarded, blowing away part of the flesh though the hand was saved.
