Six point program to prevent calf feeding problems proposed
Ray Marley of Iowa State College recommends a six point plan for farmers feeding milk to calves to avoid digestive upsets and bacterial infections. Use warm fresh milk at regular times, scrub into clean pails, avoid overfeeding and reduce milk if scouring appears. If selling whole milk, use a calf starter with at least 20 percent protein and up to 6 percent crude fiber, then switch to simpler concentrates after four months.
