Cherokee county farmers surpass one million dollars in soil conservation benefits. Clarence W Herwig dies of suffocation in his flaming box car home at 421 Willow Street after failed rescue. George Hicks elected mayor by 180 vote margin, three new councilmen seated, longtime member defeated.

The annual intermediate grade operetta at the school auditorium Friday evening delighted a large audience. seventy eight pupils from the fourth to sixth grades performed under teachers Alice Reynolds Evelyn Neff and Norma Schuelke with music supervisor Victoria Ayleworth. The show featured pretty costumes and was regarded as real entertainment.
An instrument dated April 20 1937 purporting to be the last will of Carl J Herold deceased was filed and set for hearing at 10 00 am on April 11 1939 at the Cherokee Court House before the District Court or Clerk. The Aurelia high school bands under A. S Morse gave a three part program at the school auditorium Tuesday evening. The juvenile band opened the show, followed by a juvenile broadcast of group and solo numbers, and the advanced band closed the event. Attendees praised the performance.

Thomas H. Bell a well known Walnut Grove resident died suddenly Sunday morning at his home south of Walnut Grove Minnesota at age 75 years five months and three days Funeral services were held at the Walnut Grove Methodist church with interment in the Walnut Grove cemetery He leaves Rose Noll Bell and six children all born in Aurelia Iowa Merle Floyd Olive Gladys Butch and Bruce Bell and siblings in California and Iowa The Bells had farmed in Aurelia and later moved to Holly Township Murray County in 1909 making him a prominent local farmer and citizen
