A light turnout marked last Monday’s primary with 97 Republican votes and 8 Democratic votes. In contests, Stevena defeated Payton for recorder and McDonald beat McCulla for county attorney. Most Republican nominees ran unopposed. Boies led by about 8,000 votes for Congress. Pitcher township elected Mummert and Nystedt as officials with no Democratic nominees for township offices.
Iowa state officials under W B Barney begin comprehensive bakery inspections with Washington division experts to ensure at least 20 percent substitutes in bread. No further extensions will be granted as substitutes become available. any bakery using less will lose its license.
Two girls confined in a courthouse room were released Tuesday morning. Deputy Hill sent one to Rock Rapids to join a parent. Alta’s five new recruits bid farewell to the patriotic street meeting crowd. The men were Ployde Parrott Arthur Lokken Oscar Kline Alfred Peterson and Frank Willfong. W C Edson of Storm Lake gave a talk No Hysterics. A local quip on kissing ends with a humorous exchange.
