East Afton and Elk My club members hosted a Friday gathering at the Grienke home with Five Hundred played at five tables. Louis Etroth and Bill Booth won high prizes while Viola Ammons and Matzdorff received consolation prizes. Guests included Roy and Matzdorff of Aurelia and Edna Ruebsam of Slayton.
Four marriage licenses were issued by Wayne Flickinger in his first month in office. Congressman elect Guy M. Gillette will address Sheldon and Spencer meetings Feb 13. Seventh annual Cherokee County spelling contest set for March 21. Lulu Rose Orr announced elimination contests for all county schools. Electric rate cut from eight to seven and a half cents per KW approved by L F Johnson. new rate to take effect on February bill due March 1.
Leonard Barr was installed as Noble Grand of Alta Odd Fellows lodge No 388 with Carl Gifford as Vice Grand. The Alta Cooperative creamery annual meeting re-elected directors Ray L. Cone Aurelia W H Heimsoth Schaller for three year terms. Storm Lake edged Alta 24 to 23 in a season opener rematch. A wholesale farm sale near Alta to F C Gallaher for 2500 was not accepted. Audry and Arlene Olson visited Mrs Gust Olson.
The annual meeting of the Peoples Telephone Company will be held in the company room Saturday February 31 194% at one o clock for electing officers and other annual business that may come before this meeting. A L McKinnon secretary.
Hanover news notes a string of social visits across Galva with Mr and Mrs Lester Speckerer Mrs Hans Lage and others spending Tuesday at the Fret Mueller home. Tuesday afternoon gatherings include the Reinart Miller home and dinner at the August Miller residence with Wm Specketer and LeVern. Lake shopping trips are listed for the Fett family and Dick Schmidt and son Kenneth on Saturday.
