The Aurelia Woman's Club met December 8 at Mrs. Jean Trigg's home. Members answered roll call with Xmas verses and donated food for Christmas baskets. Mrs. Troup and Mrs. Dubes will coordinate with welfare organizers to prepare holiday gift baskets for the needy. The program led by Mrs. Gertrude Dawson included papers on Christmas in Other Lands and How the World Keeps Christmas, a playlet featuring Mrs. Luella Hickey and Mrs. Walling, with participants including Miss Eurella Waddell and Roger Glawe.
Dell and Mrs. Mabel Waddell accompanied the piano as members sang Xmas carols. Gifts from a decorated tree were distributed by Santa Claus. A delicious lunch followed, prepared by the committee. Mrs. Elizabeth Whitney, Club Reporter.
Carl Nelson son of Mr and Mrs H P Nelson leads 30 members of his boys band from Fort Madison into an 800 piece ensemble drawn from southwest Iowa high school and city musicians. They will tour California in August for Iowa day festivities funded by the Iowa organization in California with $90 000 raised. Mrs Carl Nelson is among 20 chaperones assigned to the special train.
A. H. Avery of Clay County leads a bill to cut auto license fees for older vehicles. The measure, framed with the vehicle and motor vehicle committees, would gradually reduce the fee after the third registration, arguing older cars use highways less and that fees often exceed intrinsic value.
Peterson workers begin state park project across the river at the east bridge. Clay county crew of 100 handles road work timber clearing landscaping and stream improvement with a budget of 15467 dollars. Buena Vista county undertakes storm lake shore erosion control a dam rebuild and park land development for 221 workers at 37904 dollars.
Farm Bureau women gathered at Mrs. Frank Waddell's home for the regular meeting and Xmas program. Forty five ladies and ten children attended with community singing recitations, readings, a paper on Xmas customs, a play by district No 1, instrumental numbers, and a Santa visit with gifts. Mrs Walter Peterson was chosen as delegate to Ames. Lunch followed served by district No 5.
Chicago reports Storm Lake banker George J. Schaller elected acting governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He will assume the post January 1 and is expected to retire as president of Citizens First National Bank of Storm Lake, likely to be succeeded by his son Harry. Born in 1874 to German parents, Schaller co founded the Storm Lake bank in 1902 and has served as cashier, vice president, and president.
Historical notes recount Don Pedro Vial a Spaniard marking the Santa Fe trail on horseback in 1798 and other riders before 1821 when William Becknell opened the route with a pack train. Becknell’s congress report spurred the 1825 Osage treaty granting U.S. right of way through Indian lands for the Santa Fe trail.

Diamond residents prepare for school Christmas programs at week’s end. A oyster supper at Tom Holmes home raised ten dollars for the Diamond Aid with an impromptu stunt program. Funeral services were held for Mrs Pete Wickstrom and Pete Wickstrom at Good Hope church. A Christmas pageant is set for December 24 at Diamond church.
Albertine Dolquist Vicstrom died December 17 1938 at her Pilot township farm after a long illness. She was born December 1 1891 in Diamond township Cherooke county Iowa to John S and Cora Dolquist. She leaves husband Peter M Vicstrom two children Marie Josephine and Forrest William a father two brothers Ernest and Carl a twin sister Mrs G C Peterson and many relatives. Funeral was held at Good Hope church Rev Liming in charge with distant relatives from Wilmore Minnesota attending.
