Weather and Crop Bulletin Iowa Week Ending August 6 1918

Abnormally cool start gave way to intense heat across southern Iowa with record highs up to 113 at Clarinda and 112 at others. Corn suffered severe 60 percent losses in southwest counties while northern sections showed strong prospects. threshing 50 to 75 percent complete in south and progressing in north. Potatoes blighted and potato yields expected lower. garden crops poor except northeast. pastures and clover seedings failed in south and west. winter wheat plowing begun statewide.

Notice to Holders of Liberty Bond Convert to Four Percent

Holders of First Liberty 4 per cent and Second Liberty 4 per cent bonds must convert by November 9 1918 to retain interest. Conversion through original banks before the deadline secures new bonds at 4 per cent from May 15 or June 15 1918 with no accrued interest. 8 per cent bond holders may convert to 4 per cent or to higher rate long term bonds during wartime.
