In a twilight forest tale Yazard daughter of the Sioux White Feather loves Vermego a Fox warrior. They plan a secret union but panther danger prompts rescue by Vermego. Pursued by kin war cries force a perilous escape and a tragic end as love and vengeance collide. Later items describe an elephant rampage near Baton Rouge and a famed dog training anecdote.
A passenger aboard the steamer Princess from Baton Rouge reports that on Saturday morning a large male elephant at Hopkins' & Co's Menagerie killed its longtime keeper. The elephants and a camel were sent ahead of the rest of the animals on the journey.
Anacharsis the Scythian prince earned freedom in Athens and entry among the Wise due to bravery and wisdom. His saying on wine classifies pleasure intoxication and repentance in three grapes, and he warned that drunken sight persuades against wine. He defended composure at feasts while laughing at an ape, noting man can become ridiculous against nature.
