Eating Fruits and Health Rules from Old Time Advice
A collection of dated snippets covers fruit eating rules advising two hours after fruit before other food, promotes fruit as a sole daily desert for much of the year, and extols natural fruit consumption. Included are critical notes on street begging, regard for child welfare, and a Charleston business surge in the winter season. The Detroit method for 6 percent interest uses a decimal separator trick to calculate six day, thirty day, and longer intervals.

Paris Social Reform Ideas From a Morn ing Post Letter
The Paris correspondent contrasts Parisian and London life, debating if France’s social measures could fit England to improve decency and health. He notes French poor are calmer and more frugal, cites cheap amusements and venues as factors, and suggests penny stage entertainments and penny concert rooms to steer the poor away from gin shops. He cites Livesey of Preston’s temperance concerts as a precedent.
