Includes Territorio notes on governance, discipline, and loyalty alongside a separate note from Count Romanzow on Moldavia Wallachia governance and a Cobbett sentence. Also reports Stockholm mob action against Baron Fersen and a Dutch proclamation by Louis Napoleon of Holland.
A London style account reproduces a Middlesex petition urging reform after Sir Francis Burdett’s rejection, denouncing parliamentary corruption, unequal representation, and the sale of seats. It also reports Liverpool press gang and American reactions, plus Buenos Aires events toward a junta, with vivid civic unrest described.
On September 8 at one o'clock, William Smith a free black man and former steward of the brig Sea Island was executed on the South Common after conviction for stealing a wench and her child from Charles Trot and for attempting to lure another enslaved person from B and J P Kinne. The sentence reflects state law applicable to both whites and blacks. Smith is noted as the first to be executed for such an offense in this area and a warning that enslaved people seeking freedom to the North face pursuit.
