Liverpool Cotton Market News Dated 1833
Extract from a Liverroon letter dated 31 July 1833 reports brisk demand for cotton on 26 July with up to 10 000 bales traded at strong prices and some parcels at record rates. Weekly stock figures show 47 000 bales, including 14 709 upland and 11 0 at 19 4d, with imports for the year around 617,000 bales. Notes of speculative activity and steady prices despite slower demand since 26 inst. Also mentions flour markets and a sale of North Alabama cotton at 16 cents on spec. 4000 bales of cotton arrived by rail from Midway sold at 20 cents.
