Letters in the Post Office Columbia 1810 list of names

The list records names of individuals with letters remaining in the Columbia Court-house post office as of October 6 1810. It includes many surnames along with titles such as Rev and Capt and notes items like be sent to various residents and offices. The compilation reflects early 19th century postal practice and community names.

Reuben Deserted Yet At Large Fled from Augusta 1810

A fellow about ten feet ten inches high real name Davy ran away from Augusta Thursday evening last. formerly owned by Harden of Virginia sold to John F. Cocke near Athens Georgia and eloped in 1808, was captured near Cambridge Carolina and sold from Edgefield jail after twelve months. He goes by Reuben Evans, branded with H on forehead and cheeks. He wears a blue round coat with red cape and nankeen pantaloons. Rewards total 75 dollars for delivery in or out of Augusta. Editors urged to publish three times. THO. Plantation for Sale Near Augusta with Credited Purchase

The Subscriber offers his plantation of 300 acres 16 miles from Augusta and 7 miles from Edgefield Court House. Goods include livestock crop tools wagon cart and household furniture plus a Negro man. Land sale notice for Thomas Carter estate in Elbert County

Nine months from date application will be made to the Inferior Court of Elbert county for leave to sell several tracts of land in Baldwin and Elbert counties. The real estate belongs to Thomas Carter late of Elbert dec and heirs and creditors will be benefited. Names include James Carter Higginbotham Dudley Bond and Charles Carter. September 29 1810.
