Nine Month Notices to Sell Lands in Multiple Counties

Nine months from the date hereof application will be made to the Inferior Court in Burke Morgan Columbia and Richmond counties for leave to sell several tracts of land totaling about 350 acres adjoining Captain Hughes and the estate of E Byne in Burke County and 2024 acres in Morgan County for the heirs and creditors of Thomas Cooper deceased and Caleb Moncrief dec Wm FitzGerald estate and others.

Lost Letters at Lexington Post Office 1809 List

A historical notice lists unclaimed letters in Lexington post office dated October 4 1809 and warns they will return to the general post office as dead letters. Names include John Glenn William Griffin John Canter George Phillips William Smith and others. The document also records a runaway slave Charleston described as about 35, five feet nine inches, black complexion with a facial scar, offering a ten dollar reward for capture and delivery to the owner.

Hundred Dollar Reward for Judy the Runaway Slave

An 1806 Savannah notice offers One Hundred Dollars for the capture of Judy a roughly forty year old enslaved woman formerly owned by Dr. Brickell and harbored in the Augusta Campbellton region. The ad notes forged passes and licenses, lists her known associations, and promises bounties paid by George Harral or Dr. Thomas I Wray with possible pardon if she surrenders herself. A separate probate notice seeks leave to sell land for Robert Fenkens heirs in Randolph County.

A young Divine at Edinburgh, under a 109 guinea wager, began reading six Bible chapters hourly for six weeks last Thursday at noon. Spectators at the Griffin, Villier Street, Strand, praised the feat as gluttonous betting heats rise among town gallants and wagers on extreme stunts.
